Updated November 2026. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Restaurant details below come from each venue’s own 2026 listing where one exists; where it doesn’t, we note last year’s details so you know what to ask for.
Quick answer: Yes, you can have a full Thanksgiving in San Miguel de Allende, and you don’t have to cook a thing. The town has a big American and Canadian community, so many restaurants serve turkey dinners on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and some sell whole dinners to go. Expect roughly 850 to 1,600 pesos per person for a sit-down feast. The weather helps too: late-November days in San Miguel average about 75°F (24°C), and it almost never rains.
Picture Thanksgiving afternoon on a rooftop in short sleeves. The sky is that hard, clear November blue, church bells ring somewhere below, and the only dish you’ll touch all day is the one in front of you. We live here, and every November we watch San Miguel’s expat community turn Thanksgiving into a real town-wide event. Turkey with all the trimmings is easy to find. So is a table full of strangers who feel like family by dessert.
If you’re tired of the airport scramble, the grocery lines, and the 6 a.m. turkey alarm, this might be the year to try Thanksgiving in Mexico instead.

Why Spend Thanksgiving in Mexico Instead of at Home?
The weather. San Miguel sits about 6,200 feet up in the Mexican highlands. Historical averages from EaseWeather put November highs around 75°F (24°C) and lows near 46°F (8°C), with almost no rainy days. That means lunch outdoors, sunsets on the roof, and a sweater for the evening.
Somebody else does the cooking. No brining, no dishes, no one stuck in the kitchen missing the conversation. You book a table, show up, and eat.
It’s a real celebration here. Thanksgiving is one of the biggest nights of the year for San Miguel’s expat community, and restaurants plan for it weeks ahead. You get the familiar plate, plus mariachis on the walk home.
Turkey is a Mexican original. Wild turkey, the guajolote, was domesticated in Mexico long before it reached a Pilgrim’s table, and turkey in mole (a rich chili-and-chocolate sauce) is a classic Mexican feast dish. Thanksgiving here is a bit of a homecoming for the bird, and a lot spicier than turkey, taters, and gravy.

Where Can You Eat Thanksgiving Dinner in San Miguel de Allende?
Thanksgiving at Moxi, Hotel Matilda
This is the one with a confirmed 2026 menu. Hotel Matilda’s 2026 page lists a Texas-style Thanksgiving at Moxi on Thursday, November 26, with seatings at 2 and 6 p.m. The menu: plated buttered turkey, then family-style cornbread sage dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cinnamon sweet potatoes with pecans, green bean casserole, cranberry chutney, brioche rolls, and a pumpkin dessert, with live saxophone. It’s 1,600 pesos per person, and the hotel says the 15% service is included. Full payment is due at booking and isn’t refundable. Reserve on Hotel Matilda’s Thanksgiving page, by phone at +52 415 152 1015, or on WhatsApp (+52 415 152 0811).

Luna de Queso
Luna de Queso, the much-loved cheese shop, deli, and restaurant, is planning a big catered Thanksgiving event for 2026. Last year’s was a four-course dinner party from 3 to 8 p.m., according to Discover San Miguel. The 2026 menu and price weren’t posted online when we wrote this, so message them on WhatsApp (+52 415 140 2508), and ask about to-go options too.
El Buen Café
El Buen Café has been a Thanksgiving tradition for years. For 2025, its listing offered three seatings (1, 3, and 5 p.m.) at 850 to 990 pesos per person. It also sold the whole spread to go: roast turkey, gravy, cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes, and pies by the liter, delivered on Thanksgiving week. Last year it took orders by email only, with payment in advance and no credit cards. Check for the 2026 details before you count on it.

For a splurge or a view
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende’s 1826 Restaurant has hosted a four-course Thanksgiving with paired wines and live music. For something out of town, Patria Restaurante at Viñedos Patria served Thanksgiving dinner among the vines in 2025. Ask both for their 2026 plans.
Our tip: Book now. The best seatings sell out in the last two weeks before Thanksgiving, and some require full prepayment.

Can You Host Thanksgiving in a Rental Without Cooking?
Yes, and it might be the best of both worlds. Order a catered dinner to go, then set the table at a home with room for everyone. You get the privacy of your own Thanksgiving, with kids running around, football on, and second helpings at midnight, without the shopping or the cleanup. Just order early. Last year, El Buen Café closed to-go orders two days before Thanksgiving.

Is Thanksgiving in San Miguel de Allende Expensive?
We’ll be honest with you: a restaurant feast here isn’t cheaper than cooking at home. The American Farm Bureau’s 2025 survey put a classic home-cooked dinner for 10 at $55.18 in groceries. What you’re paying for is a day off: 850 to 1,600 pesos per person buys a full holiday meal with someone else shopping, cooking, serving, and washing up. Prices are in Mexican pesos, so check the current exchange rate.

Where to Stay for Thanksgiving in San Miguel
We still have open dates for Thanksgiving week at two of our homes:
- Casa Alce is in La Escondida, a quiet gated community just outside centro. It has a hot tub, a shared pool and gym, a free shuttle downtown, and a covered terrace made for a long holiday table. It’s also just minutes from Luna de Queso, so picking up a catered dinner is easy.
- Casa Flora is a boho two-bedroom in centro with a garden, parking, and a rooftop with a grill for sunset drinks. You can walk to Hotel Matilda and the Jardín.
Book direct and you’re dealing with people who live here, not a platform. We’re happy to point you to the right Thanksgiving table.
