Whether you’re local or foreign, my assistants and I are available on call for whatever problem or questions you may have. Or if you just need some orientation in town, we are happy to give tips, recommendations, and/or directions.
Right in the bustling heart of town, the lively historical and festive Centro has basically everything, from great restaurants, shops, sights, people, music. Right around the corner heading south with the one-way traffic, is the ‘Biblioteca’ or public library and Oratorio church. Or up the street you’ll arrive at the central Jardin area, where you’ll find the famous cathedral, La Parroquia, often full of people, mariachis, soon-to-be-wed couples, and occasional folkloric donkeys! In the other direction heading north against traffic, you enter into the adored and sought-after Colonia Guadalupe, home to some of San Miguel’s best mural graffiti art and organic restaurants, (Via Organica, Querencia, Josephine’s, Mio Bistrock). Hidalgo street is one of the main streets leading up to the central Jardin square, with shops, restaurants, cafes, and all kinds of surprises along the way. Everything you could need or want is just within walking distance!
WARNING: Casa Rubeo is located on the busy Hidalgo main street and experiences frequent traffic (cars, motos, buses) all day long, so there is a potential for noise during the morning and afternoon! And during high season (January-April) that potential is amplified by the high volume of tourists visiting San Miguel. The city of San Miguel is quite often a noisy and rambunctious town of events and celebration, thus, Casa Rubeo, cannot be held responsible for honk-happy drivers passing by, or the overall noise of the external environment. Thus, we suggest that guests do their due diligence when making a travel decision. Regardless, ear plugs are provided for guests should they find it necessary at any moment.
The best part about San Miguel is that everything is in walking distance. But if you need a lift, we work closely with professional trusted drivers who can take you anywhere at any time. Ask your host for more details. Otherwise, there are regular green and white taxis on almost every other block, which usually cost between $50-$100 pesos around town. $100-$200 pesos if outside of town.
Uber is also available in San Miguel.
There are also regular inexpensive (5 pesos) buses that pass through Hidalgo street, often stopping on the next block on Insurgentes street in the direction of Luciernaga and the Tuesday Tiangis, or in the other direction to Mega and Bodega Aurrera.
For being so centrally located 2.5 blocks from the “Jardin” main plaza, there is often a lot of festivities, fireworks, tourism, as well as transiting vehicles! In high season it can get quite busy, a bit rambunctious, ideal for those who like the action, parties, and excitement! If ever too noisy, we are happy to provide ear plugs free of cost.
